John 17: A Parent's Note

I am slowly making my way through the Gospel of John, and this morning, NT Wright, as usual, has added some wonderful new perspective. In John for Everyone, Part 2, he compares Jesus’ prayer in John 17 to the note of a parent going off and leaving his or her children with the grandparents.
Because the parent knows the child so well, he is careful to leave detailed instructions, spelling out what each child needs. It is an intimate list. And it is written not because the parent does not trust the grandparents, but because he does – he know that Grandma and Grandpa will love them just as much and will care for them just as well. There is deep trust.

We, today, are in just such a position. Our dear older brother, Jesus, has left us in the good hands of his own dear Father.
