New Years Resolution?

What is stronger, a New Year's resolution or a slight inclination?
Already, bloggers are predicting what we all know: most New Year's resolutions have already failed (or will fail soon). There is all kinds of advice, and some of it is proabably helpful: be more realistic with your resolutions, make a concrete plan, etc.
But today, reading John 5, I see a different idea. Instead of making a resolution, aim for a slight inclination.
In explaning his healing of a crippled man, Jesus says it's simple. He watches what his Father does and then does the same. In other words, he's an apprentice. His inclination is to do what he sees God doing.
Over time, even a slight bent in God's directions can lead to significant change, and isn't that what resolutions are all about?
